🔻Following nationwide protests led by young people, clashes broke out in several cities in Germany. In France as well, during the third consecutive weekend, large demonstrations were held, and hundreds were detained in Paris, Toulouse, Lyon and Marseille.

The protests in Germany, which were shaped with inspiration from similar movements in France and Italy, were largely peaceful during the day, but at night in the cities of Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Frankfurt they led to confrontations with the police.

In Germany, the demonstrations began early on Saturday, with thousands joining the mostly peaceful protests. The demonstrations were organized by a group called “Generation Z takes matters into its own hands” to protest the lack of school funding, the high cost of living, cuts to public services, and the possibility of compulsory military service.

The police said that the situation in Frankfurt calmed overnight and into Sunday morning.

In addition to Frankfurt, violent clashes also occurred in Berlin and Cologne and Hamburg. In Cologne, the police said that their officers were attacked near the central train station with bottles.
