🔺Financial Times: Russia is building a Starlink rival and strengthening its drone capability

▪ The Financial Times reported that Russia is trying to launch the satellite communications network “Rasot”; a system that, according to Ukrainian officials, could make it easier to control multiple drones simultaneously deep inside Ukrainian territory and attack moving targets.

▪ As the newspaper wrote, a network consisting of low Earth orbit satellites, ground stations, and communication terminals may be put into orbit starting in 2027.

▪ Live image transmission with low latency is among the capabilities that could increase the effectiveness of Russia’s reconnaissance and attack drones. Ukrainian military intelligence says this network will also have the ability to transmit targeting data for missile systems.
