Democrats won control of the Senate once again in America’s midterm elections; a result that could increase congressional opposition to the plans of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, in the final two years of his presidency.

Based on the results announced so far, Democrats have won 53 Senate seats, counting two independent senators, while Republicans have won 41 seats.

In the House of Representatives as well, Democrats, having gained 207 seats versus 125 for Republicans, are only 11 seats away from reaching a majority of 218 seats.
