🔸“A Little Light”; when saving someone becomes a crime

🔸When saving a person’s life turns into a crime, what can make a person hope to keep living? “A Little Light,” the latest film by Ali Asgari, is the story of a doctor who was punished for treating the injured from Iran’s protests, and now, on the brink of suicide, spends his last day of life. A film about suppression, exhaustion, and the search for a tiny opening to survive; a narrative that brings to mind Abbas Kiarostami’s “Taste of Cherry,” while, at the heart of today’s political reality in Iran, raising the old question of whether to be or not to be.

🔸One note: The film discussed in this episode addresses suicide. If, for any reason, you are also thinking about suicide in Iran, call the Social Emergency service (123), the Counselor’s Voice (1480), or the Tehran Psychiatric Emergency (44508200). In the United States, call 988.
