China urges ceasefire, stressing end to violence in Middle East as top priority

China's envoy on Tuesday stressed ending hostilities and curbing violence as the overriding priority across the Middle East, noting that the region belongs to its people and must not become an arena for major power rivalry or a casualty of geopolitical maneuvering.
