Britain sent its national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, on an undeclared trip to Israel in an attempt to prevent the closure of its consulate in East Jerusalem, but talks did not reach an agreement. Now reports indicate that if Israel shuts this consulate, London may respond in kind by expelling a similar number of Israeli diplomats.
