Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported that two members of the Islamic Republic’s delegation at the United Nations General Assembly were expelled from the United States after ignoring an order from the U.S. State Department to leave the country.
Alireza Namvar Haghighi, a political analyst, said the move is in line with the Trump administration’s maximum pressure policy toward the Islamic Republic; a policy that, in addition to economic pressure and a military threat, also seeks to isolate Tehran diplomatically. He added that the most important link in pressuring the Islamic Republic is the economic blockade and sanctions, which can challenge the government’s ability to meet domestic needs.
