Australia’s foreign minister said Hamas should not have any role in the country of Palestine, and that Canberra remains committed to a two-state solution.

Penny Wong, after a meeting with her Palestinian counterpart, Waarsen Aghabekian, wrote in a post on the X network that the two sides discussed the “reform agenda” of the Palestinian Authority and “joint efforts to strengthen the institutional foundations of Palestine.”

Wong added that the two sides also talked about the “devastating situation in Gaza.” She wrote: “Once again, I emphasized that Hamas should not have any role in the country of Palestine.”
