Amid the intensification of tensions and attacks by the Islamic Republic on tanker ships, Abu Dhabi’s oil company has purchased three large tankers worth $590 million to bolster its logistics capabilities for transporting oil.
Three sources told Reuters that the move by Abu Dhabi’s oil company was intended to address the fact that clashes in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz have limited the availability of tankers and increased transportation costs using foreign-flag ships.
The report adds that, in addition, the Emirati company has placed orders for the construction of 25 to 30 new vessels— including oil tankers, LNG and LPG carriers— with several different shipbuilding companies so that it can continue its oil and gas exports with strength in the event of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously, roughly 900 vessels, including 14 large tankers, were in the possession of this Emirati company.
