🔻Ambrey says rescue operation for damaged ship begins off Oman’s coasts

The British maritime security company Ambrey says it is carrying out a rescue operation for the damaged oil tanker “Caroline Bezengi” off the coasts of Oman.

According to Reuters, Ambrey says rescue and assistance vessels are on their way to support the operation and added that specialized teams have already gone aboard the tanker to assess the situation and begin the necessary actions to stabilize the ship and its cargo.

The security company said it is working with all relevant parties with seriousness and cooperation, including Omani authorities.

Ambrey said it has contracted with a leading international company in oil-spill response to support the operation.

These relief efforts come after Oman’s Environment Agency reported that the oil spilled from the Caroline Bezengi tanker, which has had a crude oil leak since it ran aground in June, has reached the Ras Madrakah coast and has contaminated an area up to 40 kilometers along the central coastline.

Environmental advocacy groups had previously warned that as the large oil slick approaches Oman’s shores, an environmental catastrophe may be in store for the country.
