Ali Reza Salimi, the representative of Tehran and a member of the presidium of the Parliament, said about the proposal to halt enrichment by Tehran: «The Parliament has a law regarding 60 percent enrichment, and the law cannot be changed with diplomatic statements and the like. Therefore, the Parliament has a law regarding 60 percent enrichment, and we are not abandoning 60 percent enrichment.»

The representative of Tehran said about the Parliament’s bill to withdraw from the NPT: «Withdrawal from the NPT is on the table of the Parliament and will be reviewed.»

Salimi, regarding the meeting between the presidents of the United States and China and the discussion about Iran, said: «The fact that the Chinese did not accept the United States’ request for flights and air sanctions against Iran is enough for us. We have also received signals that the Chinese have not paid serious attention to President Trump’s requests. This is sufficient for us and indicates the strategic failure of the United States.»

Salimi, regarding the joint emphasis by China and the United States on freedom of navigation in international waterways, said: «This is an accurate statement. They have referred to international waters, that Iran does not do such a thing. The Strait of Hormuz is not an international waterway and is part of Iran’s territorial waters, and the existing international laws regarding territorial waters are clear.»
