After 48 hours of heavy rain, many streets in Thailand’s capital went under water and a “flood emergency” was declared across the city of Bangkok.
Thai officials have asked citizens to stay at home as much as possible, and residents living near the city’s canal network to move their belongings to upper floors.
Although storms and thunder and lightning are common in Thailand during this time of year, the recent downpours have overwhelmed Bangkok’s drainage system and caused widespread disruption to urban traffic.
Rain is expected to continue until Sunday, and there are concerns about more canals in the city overflowing.
