🔻The British government is preparing new plans to protect cables and vital undersea pipelines against what it calls serious threats.

The British government says suspicious activity around the British coastline, including “by Russia,” has been increasing.

Nearly all of the internet in the UK and about three-quarters of its gas are supplied through cables and pipelines laid on the seabed.

The government says it wants to introduce laws that would include harsher prison sentences, unlimited fines, and new powers to target any person or foreign country that deliberately damages undersea infrastructure.
