Abbas Araqchi, foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, wrote in a note in The Financial Times: “I have a duty to warn that any escalation of tensions in the Strait of Hormuz or other parts of the region would pose serious risks to the lives of civilians, the security and welfare of the region’s countries, and the global economy.”
Araqchi also wrote that the Islamic Republic is seeking a fair and honorable agreement with the United States, but the White House must demonstrate its real will to bring about a permanent end to what it called “aggressions.”
He added that given that the White House has shown no willingness to reach an understanding and continues to talk about military action, there is little hope for progress under current circumstances.
At the end, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic wrote that if the United States again chooses military action over diplomacy, it will face a larger strategic defeat.
