A Turkish citizen was detained in Britain on Friday on charges of conspiracy to transfer money and equipment to Hamas. Based on an indictment by the U.S. prosecutors, Muhammed Yusuf Husna, 45, and a resident of Istanbul, used his senior position in an organization that prosecutors described as “a fictitious global humanitarian organization.”
Jaimie McDonald, a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, said Husna worked closely with senior Hamas leadership and, under the cover of humanitarian aid, provided the group with equipment, food supplies, and money. Husna will remain in custody until the extradition proceedings to New York are held.
The U.S. has listed Hamas as a foreign terrorist organization.
