🔻 12 kilometers of Oman’s coastline has been contaminated with oil

The state news agency of Oman announced that about 12 kilometers of its coastline has been affected by an oil spill.

The report says that the oil contamination is near Ras Madrakah on the western shores of Oman, in the south of the Strait of Hormuz.

The oil leak from a damaged oil tanker, after having spread in the sea for weeks, reached Oman’s shores from the middle of last week.

According to Oman’s Environment Agency, efforts to contain this contamination are underway and the oil slick is moving toward open waters.

In recent days, an oil pollution has also been reported and observed on the shores of Qeshm, north of the Strait of Hormuz.
