Reports published in Iran’s domestic media in recent days point to a shortage and an unprecedented increase in the price of medicines, as well as rising costs of healthcare and treatment services.

These reports have increased concerns, even as the prices of some simple medicines, including painkillers, have also been on an upward trend. At the same time, news has been published about the outbreak of a new strain of the coronavirus, further increasing worries about citizens’ access to medicines and healthcare services.
