🔶 Fire in the forests of southern France; evacuation of three thousand tourists After weeks of drought and high temperatures, several wildfires broke out in southern France. Near the city of Perpignan, after a new fire occurred, nearly three thousand people were moved to safe locations. The fire department said many of these people were staying in tourist camping sites, and the flames destroyed a number of camper vehicles and prefabricated villa accommodations. Hundreds of rescue forces are taking part in the fire-containment operation, and two firefighters have been injured in a superficial manner. Sébastien Lecornu, France’s prime minister, said that since the beginning of summer, thousands of fires have occurred across the country and nearly 9,000 hectares of land have burned.
