Nahid Falahi, a Baha’i citizen imprisoned in Shiraz, has been denied telephone contact and visits with her family 34 days after her arrest.

At the same time, reports point to the worsening condition of Nada Badakhs, another Baha’i prisoner in Isfahan, and to the opposition of officials of the Islamic Republic’s judiciary to her requests for medical treatment.

A source with knowledge of Falahi’s situation told Iran International that she was denied telephone contact and family visits about a week earlier, and that during more than a month of detention in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz, she had been allowed in-person visitation only once.

According to this source, her husband was also denied visitation because the authorities confiscated the couple’s identity documents (birth certificates) during a search of their home.

Meanwhile, a source with knowledge of Badakhs’s situation said that this 62-year-old Baha’i citizen, with seven months having passed since the start of her five-year prison term in the Dovolatabad Prison in Isfahan, has developed diabetes, arthritis, joint inflammation, severe bone pain, and sciatica.

According to this source, officials of the Islamic Republic’s judiciary have not agreed so far to Badakhs’s repeated requests and those of her family for medical leave, parole, or the use of an electronic ankle monitor.
