A member of the Health Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said that the country’s wartime conditions, “blocking the Strait of Hormuz” and a naval blockade, have increased costs and made it more difficult to transport the items needed by the country, including medicine.
Hamayun Sameiyah, in an interview with ILNA news agency, said that he has announced proposals such as transferring medicine and raw materials for production via sea and then by land and air. He noted that this leads to an increase in transportation costs by up to 15 percent and, as a result, an increase in prices.
While a member of the Health Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly considers the naval blockade the main cause of problems in importing and the rise in the price of medicine, earlier Ruhollah Lak Aliabadi, another member of this commission, had said that the fate of 70 percent of the pharmaceutical import budget was unknown.
He had stated that one billion dollars had been withdrawn from the Development Fund for medicine, and that out of that amount, 300 million dollars had been spent; it is not clear where the “700 million dollars” else went and what became of it.
