Today, September 11, 2026, memorial ceremonies for the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 are being held in the United States.

In New York, relatives of the victims read out the names of those killed at the site of the destroyed Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, and will observe six minutes of silence in their memory.

This year, multiple memorial ceremonies are being held in different parts of the United States on this annual occasion.

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, also delivered a speech this morning, Washington time, at the Pentagon (the U.S. Department of Defense) at the ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, calling them “a moment of immense and horrific evil.”

Referring to the heroism of rescue forces, police, and ordinary citizens, he said that September 11 showed “what this country is truly made of, and that America came out strong from this test.”

In another part of his remarks, Trump referred to the ongoing war with Iran, calling the Islamic Republic “the largest supporter of terrorism in the world,” and again emphasized that Iran will not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.

Trump has named this year’s September 11 “Patriot Day,” and ordered that flags in federal buildings be flown at half-staff in memory of the victims.

This year’s ceremonies related to 11 September include, for the first time, an additional minute of silence for those who died after the event due to illness or injuries resulting from the attacks.

Tens of thousands of rescue workers, first responders, residents, and employees inhaled toxic dust after the collapse of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and later died from cancer or other illnesses.

According to the U.S. government, the number of people who have died as a result of diseases related to these attacks is now far higher than the number of those killed directly in the attacks.

The federal public health program now covers more than 150,000 people who may have been affected by the consequences of this contamination.

Today, at the central memorial ceremony in New York at the “Ground Zero” site, a special moment is expected to be dedicated to honoring these individuals.

New York Fire Department is also honoring the memory of more than 300 firefighters killed at multiple fire stations in the city.

According to the organization, since then, more than 400 additional members of the fire department have also died from diseases related to the collapse of the World Trade Center.
