Shahriar Shams, a prisoner held in Damghan Prison, has explained the situation of political prisoners and the unfavorable conditions of the prison in this small city in an audio file.
Shahriar Shams, a dismissed student of Tehran North Branch of the Islamic Azad University, was arrested at his family home by security forces on Monday, 19 Mordad of the current year.
This political prisoner says that there are about 50 inmates in his section, of whom about 22 to 23 are political prisoners (accused or convicted), and the rest are related to ordinary crimes, with no separation of offenses.
According to Shahriar Shams, political prisoners in Damghan Prison are mostly detainees arrested during the protests of Dey 1404 who, “after being arrested, having their cases fabricated, and being suppressed again, are currently being tried or convicted and are being held in prison.”
During the protests of Dey 1404, the city of Damghan witnessed demonstrations, but so far the Iranian government has not officially released statistics on the number of detainees in this city. Limited information is also available about the situation in Damghan Prison.
