The medicine crisis in Iran no longer only tightens its grip on the throats of patients with specific diseases; as Iran approaches autumn, it faces a chain of crises in the pharmaceutical market—ranging from the astonishing unavailability and high prices of specialty drugs and delays in procuring influenza vaccines to rising HPV vaccine prices and the surge in prices of widely used medicines, along with a reduction in pharmacies’ ability to obtain prescriptions for patients.

As announced by the head of the Food and Drug Organization, since the beginning of 1405 (Iranian calendar year), the prices of many medicines have increased in two stages, and 1,096 items of medicine have also been included in price adjustments. Official reports and statements by officials point to disruptions in currency transfers, delays in adjusting prices, and insufficient liquidity at pharmaceutical companies as part of the factors behind the shortages.
