TankerTracers, an oil tanker tracking company, reported that ship-to-ship crude oil transfers in the Gulf of Oman over the past 14 days reached 7.15 million barrels per day, which is a 56% increase compared to the previous month.

The increase comes as concerns about shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz continue. The Financial Times had previously reported, citing shipowners and security consultants, that they are optimistic about mine clearance in the southern half of the Strait of Hormuz, near Oman’s coasts and the route through which the U.S. has been guiding ships, but they doubt whether the entire strait is free of mines.
