China’s representative at the UN Security Council: Resolution 2231 has expired and the review of Iran’s nuclear file is over
Resolution 2231 expired on October 18, 2025, and the Security Council’s consideration of Iran’s nuclear file has ended.
The insistence of some countries on holding a meeting on an issue that is no longer on the Security Council’s agenda undermines the atmosphere of negotiations.
Politicization at the Security Council has intensified differences within the Council and has put obstacles in the way of the process of reaching a political solution.
China asked the relevant countries to implement the provisions of Resolution 2231 in good faith and to protect the credibility of the Security Council and multilateral diplomacy.
In support of Russia’s position, the Chinese representative emphasized that the Security Council no longer has a mandate to examine Iran’s nuclear issue.
