Behrûz Saferi, başkanı انجمن صنفی دفاتر خدمات مسافرتی تهران (Tehran Travel Agencies Trade Association), announced the shutdown of a large segment of travel agencies across the country and said that, based on initial assessments, the recent war and its consequences have inflicted nearly two thousand billion tomans in damage on these offices.

Saferi, on Friday 31 Mordad, said in an interview with the ISNA news agency that about six thousand agencies with licenses have been registered in the country, but it is likely that only one-sixth of them will continue operating.

According to him, the severe market slowdown has led to travel agencies’ licenses being bought and sold at low prices.

Referring to the continuation of war conditions in the country, he added that travel agencies have been struggling with a slowdown for more than a year and that during the recent war their activity was completely halted.

The head of the Tehran Province Travel Agencies Trade Association said that wartime conditions and rising prices are the reasons behind the decline in travel, and warned that until stability returns to the country, people will not resume their trips.

Saferi said that concern about an intensification of clashes and the closure of routes has deterred many citizens from traveling, especially abroad.
