⚡ The UN Security Council on Thursday, 19 Shahrivar, with 11 votes in favor against 2 votes against by Russia and China and 2 abstentions by Pakistan and Somalia, approved the agenda for a meeting related to sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Jennifer Lokta, the representative of the United States, rejected Russia and China’s opposition “firmly” and said that the UN Security Council’s 1737 Committee, which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic, has been reconstituted and is “operational.”

The U.S. representative said that Russia and China, by seeking to prevent the work of this committee, want to “undermine the implementation of the resolutions of this council” and protect the Islamic Republic. Britain also supported the continued work of the committee and the return to implementing the sanctions.

Russia and China reject the validity of the return of sanctions and the continuation of the 1737 Committee’s activities; however, the approval of the agenda with the strong support of 11 Security Council members made it possible to continue reviewing the implementation of UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
