The U.S. Department of War described a Reuters report about reviewing options to replace Steve Feinberg, the deputy U.S. secretary of war, as inaccurate and said there is no process under way to replace him.

The ministry added: “It has never had a better deputy than him.”

Earlier, Reuters reported that the White House had been examining options to replace Feinberg in recent months, and that this process continued at least until the end of August. Three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that, however, no decision had been made to remove Feinberg.

Anna Kelly, a White House spokesperson, called the anonymous sources in the report uninformed about the subject and said that Donald Trump, the U.S. president, is satisfied with the performance of Pete Hegseth, U.S. secretary of war, Feinberg, and the entire Department of War.

Hegseth, in a statement in response to Reuters, said Feinberg has his full support and “is not going anywhere.” He added that Feinberg has worked to rebuild America’s defense industries and has performed very well for the Trump administration, the Department of War, and the armed forces.
