🔸An “Iranian senior political-security official” warned in an interview with Al Mayadeen that Tehran would consider any South Korea participation against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz as “direct military participation in the war.”
🔸Al Mayadeen reported on Friday without naming the official that he asked Seoul not to sacrifice its interests and credibility “for the sake of American policies.”
🔸The warning came after the office of the President of South Korea confirmed that practical options, including military measures, are being examined to help secure the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz; however, Seoul says it has not yet made a final decision.
🔸South Korean media have said possible options include sending a maritime patrol aircraft, a logistics support vessel, or a mine-hunting and mine-clearance unit. Carrying out such a mission may require approval from South Korea’s National Assembly.
🔸The South Korean government has not yet issued any response to the report about the Iranian official’s warning.
