After drone attacks on Saudi Arabia from Iraqi soil, an Iraqi military commander was dismissed early Saturday.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office, the dismissed commander led operations of Maysan Province in the south of the country.
The Thursday attack targeted an east-to-west oil pipeline in southern Medina.
Iraq had previously instructed the militias to lay down their weapons by the end of this month, but powerful groups aligned with the Islamic Republic have refused to comply.
Regional officials had previously told the Associated Press that the Houthis were involved in the design and execution of the drone attacks by Iraqi militias on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.
