🔻South Korea is preparing to deploy forces to the Strait of Hormuz

South Korean media have reported that the government of this country is preparing to send equipment and military forces in order to support what it calls “freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” and intends to begin this mission before the end of the current calendar year.

Reuters, Thursday — 12 Shahrivar — wrote that the reports published in South Korean media, citing government and military sources, say Seoul is going through the necessary legal steps to obtain parliamentary approval for this deployment.

Based on these reports, after reviewing the plan in the cabinet, the government intends to submit an official request for parliamentary consent this month.

The possible deployment of South Korean forces is being discussed as security tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have increased and attacks on commercial ships in recent weeks have risen, while a number of countries are considering ways to participate in protecting maritime security in this strategic waterway.

So far, officials of the South Korean government have not officially responded to these reports.
