Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea early on Saturday and wrote that the attack caused the ship to explode, leaving one person dead and one other injured.

The Foreign Ministry called the act an “aggressive act” and wrote that it “could further flare up and spread the fire of war.”

The ministry also, referring to what it called the “admission of the head of the Ukraine regime,” announced that the act indicates the continuation of Ukraine’s hostile approach toward the Islamic Republic.

At the end of the statement, it said that the Islamic Republic will defend its interests and national security, and attributed responsibility for any consequences arising from the incident to Ukraine and its backers.
