🔶 Asylum in Germany; demand falls, support rate rises

According to the German government’s announcement, the number of people seeking support in this country has recently increased again, while the number of asylum applications has been on the decline. Accordingly, the “adjusted support rate,” calculated by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, stood at 47.4 percent in the first half of 2026, whereas the figure for the entire year 2025 was recorded at 37.5 percent.

In calculating the adjusted support rate, applications that are reviewed purely formally and in which the content of the request for support is not assessed are not included. This means that asylum cases whose processing is the responsibility of another member country of the European Union are also left out of these figures.

According to the daily “Die Zeit,” one of the key reasons behind the rise in the adjusted support rate has been “family-tie-based support.” Based on federal statistics provided in response to a request from the Left Party, in the first six months of 2026, in more than 21,000 cases support was granted on that basis, a figure that includes 45.6 percent of positive responses.
