Yemen’s Ministry of Transport confirmed that the Houthis targeted the Aden International Airport on Wednesday morning with two ballistic missiles and several drones carrying explosive material.

Based on a statement by the ministry, a missile fell near the runway a few minutes before the flight of Yemenia Airlines from Cairo was due to land, and authorities were forced to divert the plane to Jeddah.

The Yemeni Ministry of Transport said the attack “directly put the lives of civilians and the flight crew at risk,” calling it a “serious escalation” and a threat to civilian aviation, and condemned it.

Aden International Airport is the main gateway for parts of Yemen that are outside the control of the Houthis.
