🔶 Wildfire in several states of Germany

A wildfire in the Düren region in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia continues to threaten a residential area, and local authorities have been forced to evacuate residents of part of Hürtgenwald.

According to the latest reports, the fire near Hürtgenwald has reached less than 200 meters from the Gey (Gey) area. Local officials said that 1,800 residents have been evacuated from the area.

A large number of firefighting personnel, including forces from other regions, are on the scene, and several firefighting helicopters are battling the flames from the air.

With the situation worsening, an emergency operations center for the Düren region has been formed.

The German news agency reported that this morning a crisis meeting was held at the North Rhine-Westphalia state ministry of agriculture, with experts in attendance. The state interior ministry has asked citizens not to enter the forests.

The ministry warned that the fires can spread at a very high speed and that most fires are caused by human misconduct.
