🔻 While the crisis surrounding the controversial plan to transfer part of the commercial rights of the World Cup continues, the newspaper L’Équipe reported that Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, personally stepped in to prevent this plan from being carried out and held talks with Gianni Infantino and several senior executives of world football.

🔹 According to this report, Macron, with the aim of preserving the unity of world football and preventing a split among the confederations, supported the hardline stance of Aleksander Čeferin, UEFA’s president, and also contacted him before the UEFA meeting on July 30. The report also says that Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, who was the first president among UEFA’s 55 members to publicly oppose Infantino’s plan, received support from the French president.

🔹 L’Équipe also reported that Macron, at the height of this crisis, spoke with Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and ultimately with Infantino himself. The French president’s call to the FIFA president took place on Thursday and only a few hours before Infantino’s retreat from the project to transfer part of the World Cup’s commercial rights.
