🔶 عراقچی: We will not give in on our conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz
Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, said in a conversation with reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that Tehran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz are clearly defined and that proposed plans conveyed through intermediaries have been delivered to the United States, and that Tehran is not willing to “back down” from these conditions.
Araqchi, alleging that the United States has reached a “deadlock,” said that only “a negotiated solution” can take them out of this deadlock. He claimed that Tehran has continued the path of negotiation and diplomacy and that, in this respect, “it is in a better political position.”
Araqchi had previously said that Iran, via Qatar, submitted to the United States a “specific seven-day plan” for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and that if Tehran’s requested conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened again to international shipping and normal traffic in this waterway could resume within seven days.
Meanwhile, the U.S. president, in an interview with reporters, said he had rejected this plan and called Tehran’s plan “unacceptable.” He said that Iran has “deceived itself” by trying to close the Strait of Hormuz.
