🔻 عراقچی: We are close to an agreement with Oman, but it does not mean the Strait of Hormuz will be opened

Iran’s foreign minister says negotiations with Oman are in the final stages, but Tehran and Muscat’s understanding does not mean the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Abbas Araghchi told reporters: “Negotiations with Oman regarding the legal framework and the management of the Strait of Hormuz, with respect to determining the navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz, are underway and we are very close to an agreement, but the opening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on other conditions, including the compensation for the violations of the Islamabad agreement by the United States.”

Araghchi said that due to the “technical and legal complexities” of reaching an agreement on a navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz, the current goal of Iran and Oman is to agree on a temporary route, which later will be considered as the “basis of the main route.”

Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened only when the United States accepts all of Iran’s conditions.

Hossein Mahboubli, the spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, told reporters: “For us, the Strait of Hormuz is not merely an economic waterway; it is capability and power that, from a geographical standpoint, is at the disposal of the Islamic Republic, and the enemy is forced to accept Iran’s conditions for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.”
