🔶 Warning about a wave of executions and repression in Iran; Sepideh Gholiyan’s letter to the representative of the German government
Sepideh Gholiyan, a human rights activist and former political prisoner, in a letter addressed to Lars Kastloci, the representative of the German federal government for human rights policy and humanitarian aid, called for the immediate action of the German government to halt the execution of death sentences in Iran, to investigate the torture of political prisoners, to guarantee fair trials, and to hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations.
In this letter, Gholiyan, citing her experience in prison over the years, wrote about torture, mistreatment, the suppression of women, and the deprivation of prisoners of fundamental rights, and emphasized that threats, psychological pressures, denial of contact with family members, and prevention of access to an independent lawyer deprive prisoners in Iran of effective defense and of the right to a fair trial.
She called on the German government to intervene to prevent the execution of death sentences in cases in which there is evidence of torture, forced confessions, or violations of the principles of fair trial procedure.
