Van Gogh painting unseen in public for 60 years attracts hundreds in Hong Kong

Hundreds queued in Hong Kong to view Vincent van Gogh's ‘Châtaigniers en fleurs’ ("Chestnut Trees in Blossom"), unexhibited for over 60 years.

Painted in May 1890 shortly before his death at 37 in Auvers-sur-Oise, the work depicts a blossoming chestnut tree.

According to Sotheby's Scott Niichel, the piece is expected to fetch around $180 million at a November 18 New York auction, potentially setting a new record for the artist.

It will be sold alongside 11 other long-unseen works by artists including Paul Cezanne and Claude Monet, testing high-end art market demand.
