One of the crew members of a ship that was targeted by an “unknown projectile” in the Strait of Hormuz has disappeared.
The British company Vanguard Teк, which operates in the field of maritime security, identified the ship as the “Minoan Pioneer,” a bulk carrier flying a Liberian flag, which was targeted at 2:00 a.m. local time while transiting the Strait of Hormuz heading north.
According to Vanguard Teк, “based on reports, the projectile hit the engine room and a fire broke out in the crew accommodation area. The crew is working to contain the fire and is in need of assistance, and it is reported that the third engineer is missing.”
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency had previously reported that on Monday night a vessel was hit by an “unknown projectile,” and that authorities are investigating the matter.
According to this report, the incident occurred 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) northeast of Khasab in Oman.
