The United Nations says that military activity in southern Lebanon has significantly decreased on Friday, after two days of increased Israeli attacks.

Fahran Haq, the deputy spokesperson of the United Nations, said that UNIFIL, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, recorded 129 shells fired by the Israeli army on Thursday; the highest daily figure since late June.

Most of these attacks were concentrated around the Al-Mansouri area, following an incident earlier this week in which two Israeli soldiers were killed and several others were injured.

UNIFIL said that more shots were recorded from Israel during the night as well, but for several hours during the day no attacks were observed. Fahran Haq described this situation as “a significant reduction in military activity.”

UNIFIL also reported repeated violations of Lebanon’s airspace by Israel. A peacekeeping patrol also discovered and destroyed two improvised explosive devices near Shaqra.

Peacekeeping forces near Naqoura also observed two Israeli boats entering Lebanese waters.
