The International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations said that following the sinking of a boat off the coasts of Djibouti during the night of October 8 to 9, at least 109 migrants, including 15 children, died, and about 116 other people are missing.
Survivors said the boat carrying 350 people, which was traveling from Djibouti to Yemen, overturned in the north of the port city of Obock.
More than 80 people survived the incident, and all of them are Ethiopian citizens.
The International Organization for Migration says that poverty, insecurity, and the worsening impacts of climate change push many migrants to take this dangerous route despite the increasing instability in the Middle East.
Migrants, after crossing the Bab el-Mandeb strait and entering Yemen, try to reach countries in the Gulf region.
