The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said that Israel currently holds 49 Syrian citizens in detention and carried out 280 armed attacks on Syria in Shahrivar (September).
According to a statement by Volker Türk’s office published on Friday, those who were released have reported “allegations of torture and ill-treatment” and other cases of violations of human rights against themselves.
The office said the number of Israel’s attacks on Syria in Shahrivar was the highest monthly figure since the start of the year. The statement said the attacks include “reported raids on homes, restrictions on movement, harassment and intimidation of civilians, arbitrary detentions, and the destruction of livelihoods.”
Israel has made no comment on the statement.
This week, the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations condemned Israel’s attacks and called for their immediate cessation and for Israel’s complete withdrawal from Syrian territories under occupation.
