Ukraine war latest: At least 17 killed after Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv and surrounding area

A massive Russian ballistic missile and drone attack killed at least 17 people and injured dozens more in Ukraine's capital and Kyiv Oblast overnight as fires engulfed Kyiv and its suburbs, authorities reported on Aug. 5.

At the same time, Ukrainian drones targeted a warehouse belonging to major Russian online retailer Wildberries in Russia's Tula Oblast overnight on Aug. 5, authorities reported.

In addition, allied supplies of air defense missiles fell by two-thirds in the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2025, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Aug. 5.
