The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Organization announced that an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was targeted with an unidentified projectile and its engine room was damaged.

Based on a warning from this organization that was published today, the crew is safe and, so far, no report has been issued about environmental damage.

The vessel’s name, flag, and ownership have not been announced, nor has the exact time of the incident been specified. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This is the third reported incident in the Strait of Hormuz in the past week. The same organization reported on 7 Mehr that a vessel was targeted and caught fire, and on 8 Mehr it said that an oil tanker carrying liquefied gas was targeted.

Since late Esfand, the Islamic Republic has disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and has made the passage of vessels conditional on coordination with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
