The U.S. State Department has informed Congress that it intends to close five of its overseas missions. People familiar with a notice that was sent to some congressional committees toward the end of last week told Reuters.

According to the notice, the U.S. missions in St. George’s, Grenada; Nagoya, Japan; Medan, Indonesia; Douala, Cameroon; and Winnipeg, Canada will be closed.

The St. George’s mission is an embassy. Medan, Winnipeg, and Nagoya are consulates, and Douala is a branch office of an embassy.

The U.S. State Department began preparations to close nearly a dozen missions in the early months of last year, and in the first months of Donald Trump’s presidency. The White House Office of Management and Budget had proposed a more ambitious plan aimed at closing up to 30 missions.
