🔶U.S. representative expresses concern over Israel’s attack on a military base in Syria

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as today’s “unlawful” Israeli attack on a military air base in the northwestern part of the country.

In a statement, the Ministry said that Syria “condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli air attacks on the Abou Zakour military air base in Idlib province, and considers them an aggressive and unwarranted act.” The statement calls on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to “take a firm position against Israel’s repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty.”

Meanwhile, Tom Barak, the U.S. ambassador to Turkey and the special envoy of the U.S. president on Syria affairs, expressed his serious concern about Israel’s air attacks on the Abou Zakour air base in Syria, calling them an unnecessary escalation.

In a post on X, he wrote that al-Shar‘ had not behaved aggressively in Syria, does not have a proxy force, and has shown its willingness to de-escalate.
