⚡U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, October 8 (Mehr 8), that the latest American forces are leaving Iraq, and described the end of the United States’ military mission in the country as “a great day for America” and “a decisive victory over ISIS.”

President Trump said: “We came to fight a caliphate. There is no caliphate anymore. We are going back home.” He emphasized that he has not allowed the temporary U.S. military presence in Iraq to turn into a permanent one.

The U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, also announced that the withdrawal of American forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base has been completed, and that the 12-year mission of Operation “Inherent Resolve” in Iraq has officially ended. According to CENTCOM, U.S.-Iraq security relations are now transitioning into a bilateral defense cooperation.

Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, said ISIS is no longer considered an organized threat to Iraq’s national security, and that Iraqi security forces have the capability to confront threats independently. The U.S. mission against ISIS in Syria will continue.
