U.S. embassies in several Middle Eastern countries issued a security warning and asked American citizens to “increase their vigilance.”

In these warnings, published on Sunday, references were made to attacks by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia and the possibility of an attack by the Islamic Republic and its allied groups on American interests.

The text of the U.S. embassy warning in Jerusalem says that “Iranian-backed Houthis have taken hostile action against Saudi Arabia,” adding that these hostilities “could quickly expand beyond their current scope.”

The warning states that “Iran and Iran-backed groups may target other U.S. interests outside or in locations associated with the United States and Americans around the world, including U.S. businesses and institutions.”

The warning asked Americans to pay attention to the likelihood of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions, and to prepare alternative plans in advance.
